Good seed with good method to produce good cotton in China

China is the world's largest raw cotton producer and the largest raw cotton consumer and importer. It imports a large amount of US cotton and Australian cotton every year. Zhang Xiling, deputy director of the Cotton Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and secretary general of the National Cotton Industry Alliance, said in an interview with the Science and Technology Daily on the 9th that good cotton is produced and promoted high-yield and high-quality new varieties and standardized in cotton areas such as Xinjiang and the Yangtze River. The planting model, the integration of water and fertilizer regulation and the whole process of mechanization, the quality of China's cotton is catching up with the United States and Australia, trying to get out of the winter of the cotton industry as soon as possible.

According to statistics, China produces about 5-6 million tons of cotton per year, accounting for 29% of the world, but the annual demand is more than 8 million tons. China's demand for high-quality cotton, that is, fiber length and fracture specific strength "double 28.5" or more, is 3 million tons, while China's current annual output is only 990,000 tons.

Zhang Xiling said that China's cotton production currently has problems such as complicated technology, long cycle, many links, more labor, more investment, and lower mechanization. In addition, the recent fluctuations in cotton prices and the lack of rural labor have led to the comparison of cotton and other crops. The advantages and competitiveness are reduced, and it is urgent to research new technologies and establish high-quality and high-quantity standardized experimental demonstration bases to promote agricultural efficiency and increase farmers' income.

Wangjiang County, Anhui Province is a national high-quality cotton production base county. Zhang Xiling said that the National Cotton Industry Alliance Wangjiang Demonstration Zone promotes standardized planting with improved varieties, cotton-specific formula controlled release fertilizer, integrated pest control and other high-quality, high-yield and high-efficiency integrated cultivation techniques; and establishes a new mode of modern cotton planting that combines agricultural machinery and agronomy. It is necessary to change the small-area planting to concentrate on large-scale planting, improve the mechanization level of cotton production, and establish a “three-section” production mode of water saving, fertilizer saving and medicine saving.

At the "National Cotton Industry Alliance Wangjiang Experimental Area on-site Observation Meeting", Zhang Jiewei, Department of Science and Education of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs also said that the Cotton Industry Alliance will build a high-quality and high-yield standardized experimental area to comprehensively improve the consistency of fiber quality; reduce and eliminate harmful impurities. To the pollution of seed cotton and lint , and to make cotton order production and order sales based on textile demand, establish a new mode of cotton production and supply, and enhance the core competitiveness of China's cotton and textile industry.
