After graduation, he spent 10 years as an art substitute teacher at Yining Fifth Primary School. Although he now leaves the school to decorate with his friends, his professional habits over the years have led him to see anything that he can draw to draw on it.

As a result, Elken tried to paint on a gourd in his spare time. He told reporters that in order to paint on a gourd, first remove a thin layer of enamel skin on the surface of the gourd, and then use a pencil to draw patterns and patterns according to the shape of the gourd, and then paint and paint according to the painted pattern. Most of the gourd paintings made were traditional Uygur decorative patterns and designs. Some gourd paintings were given to friends by him. Gradually, some people came to buy his gourd paintings. He sold more than a dozen of them every year. Although he does not rely on painting to support his family, painting a gourd in his spare time makes his life full of fun. Community officials saw Elke's gourd paintings exquisite. Every time the community held an event, he invited him to participate. This year, during the first folk culture festival in Yining City, Elken's gourd paintings were also recommended by community officials to the exhibition.

Elken told reporters that there are many gourd artists in the Uighur community in southern Xinjiang. The gourd painting is a local tourist souvenir with rich national characteristics.
